How OpenStack is shaping the future of Telecom Networks
CSP networks are evolving to keep up with changing competition and demanding customers.  Upcoming technologies like 5G and IoT are triggering and in many cases, increasing the urgency of that transformation.    Underlying technologies like SDN/NFV/MEC are all maturing and contributing to building the momentum for that distributed cloud infrastructure for CSP.   The CSP central offices and networks of today are going to look like a data center and distributed cloud when the transformation is eventually complete.  That is what some in the industry call the Telco Cloud.    It is not wild to imagine that  an AT&T or Telefonica network of the future might be the thousands of federated cloud instances interconnected by an equally programmable connectivity layer.  By virtue of being the de-facto platform for NFV, OpenStack is already playing a big role in the transformation of CSP networks.    However, with that right also comes responsibilities.   OpenStack itself is evolving to prove itself for the job – the job of ensuring a highly reliable, manageable, distributed cloud platform.   OpenStack and other CSP related open source projects like ODL and OPNFV are working collaboratively to achieve this

In this session, we will outline the following

1.       The basics of NFV and the state of NFV in Operator Networks – Where is NFV being depoloyed

2.       Introduction to OPNFV and key requirements that OPNFV is driving to help OpenStack address Telco requirements

Alianza's Journey: OpenStack and Open Source for the Efficient Enterprise

The telecom industry is ripe for disruption.  Legacy solutions involving big iron appliances are too expensive to grow or maintain, and telecom companies across the country and world are swapping out their legacy iron for newer technologies as quick as they can find good solutions.  VoIP has traditionally been looked down on as not reliable enough for carriers.  Alianza's Cloud Voice Platform changes all that and allows our customers to provide carrier-grade voice services at a fraction of the cost of their legacy solutions and a fraction of the cost of their competitors.  There are a handful of factors that make this possible, one of which is the transition from proprietary VM management solutions to OpenStack and Open Source where possible.  Join as we cover how Alianza transitioned to OpenStack and other Open Source solutions, how we configure/manage/provision resources on our private clouds, and how we transitioned from a traditional network setup to software defined networks using mostly open source tools.  We'll also explore the cost savings and operational efficiencies we realized by being able to be more agile.
