How OpenStack is shaping the future of Telecom Networks

CSP networks are evolving to keep up with changing competition and demanding customers.  Upcoming technologies like 5G and IoT are triggering and in many cases, increasing the urgency of that transformation.    Underlying technologies like SDN/NFV/MEC are all maturing and contributing to building the momentum for that distributed cloud infrastructure for CSP.   The CSP central offices and networks of today are going to look like a data center and distributed cloud when the transformation is eventually complete.  That is what some in the industry call the Telco Cloud.    It is not wild to imagine that  an AT&T or Telefonica network of the future might be the thousands of federated cloud instances interconnected by an equally programmable connectivity layer.  By virtue of being the de-facto platform for NFV, OpenStack is already playing a big role in the transformation of CSP networks.    However, with that right also comes responsibilities.   OpenStack itself is evolving to prove itself for the job – the job of ensuring a highly reliable, manageable, distributed cloud platform.   OpenStack and other CSP related open source projects like ODL and OPNFV are working collaboratively to achieve this

In this session, we will outline the following

1.       The basics of NFV and the state of NFV in Operator Networks – Where is NFV being depoloyed

2.       Introduction to OPNFV and key requirements that OPNFV is driving to help OpenStack address Telco requirements
